I read the article at CS Monitor last week and am actually doing a podcast on it this morning. As someone who uses e-mail as my primary method of communication, I understand how easy it is to get out of the habit of calling someone. I have a few clients who actually prefer that I call them and I do. I even have a client that I visit personally on a weekly basis just to touch base (I'm his webmaster). I think it comes down to learning to communicate with people in the way that's most comfortable and easily understood for them. I used to send e-mail to an engineer who never responded until I discovered that he was an aural person. I started leaving voicemails and he responded every time!
